Mr. Somkiethisack Kingsada, Lao
Since I got this fellowship to study in this higher degree on Southeast Asia at the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, it has provided me with a great opportunity to interact with international friends from different parts of the world, especially from our neighboring countries of Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand, which are the majority of my classmates.

The course’s subjects also really challenged me to learn more deeply about Southeast Asia in many different aspects, which I have never learnt before in my country, namely, socio-economic, historical, cultural, political, and civilization. Besides, the subjects are very interesting and relevant to the current situation. Chulalongkorn has a reputation for its excellent academic standard and qualified lecturers with high education and professional academics, which are well known in Thailand.

This international program is designed for international students who want to explore a rich context of the Southeast Asia region. During my first semester since October 2005, it has expanded my general knowledge of these countries and opened my eyes to the outside world. I am very impressed by all facilitators, course coordinators and lecturers who put in hard effort into applying their knowledge to these developing countries.

As I am a fellowship student of this special program, “The Weaving Mekong into Southeast Asia”, I would say the program is very effective and valuable to Laotians and allow for the promotion of a better understanding among the nations of Southeast Asia and the rest of the world.
